Sanders County, Montana, is a rural area in NW Montana characterized by rugged mountains, dense forests, and the broad valleys of the Clark Fork River. It’s economy has tradionally centered on forestry, agriculture, small-scale mining, and outdoor recreation. Hwy 200 runs through the county connecting the communities of Heron, Noxon, Trout Creek, Thompson Falls, Plains, Hot Springs (North of Hwy 200 off Hwy 28), and Dixon. The county's landscape provides abundant opportunities for fishing, hunting, hiking, and snowmobiling. Residents value the county's scenic isolation & strong community ties, even as they face challenges such as the influx of new residents from both other areas of Montana, and from across the US. A diverse array of business thrive in Sanders County, relying on a combination of locals & tourists. Home-based businesses are increasing in number as makers of all kinds work to fill the need for local products.
